Affecting nearly 15 million in the United States, and 350 million worldwide according to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is a mental disorder that can range in severity as seen in conditions such as: Major Depression; Bi-Polar disorder; Manic Depressive illness; and others.

This article examines the prevalence of depression among the aging population as it relates to medical conditions, e.g., dementia, feelings of loneliness/isolation, or seasonal triggers (holidays).
